April is Earth Month, a time to reflect on how our everyday choices impact the planet—and coffee is no exception. This month, we’re proud to highlight our partners at Finca Medina in Guatemala, a farm deeply committed to sustainable practices. We’re featuring their naturally processed coffee, a method that uses significantly less water than traditional washed processing and creates virtually no wastewater pollution. By sun-drying the whole coffee cherry, Finca Medina not only conserves vital water resources but also reduces energy use and protects local ecosystems. Choosing their natural coffee is a small act with a big environmental impact—one that aligns beautifully with our values and the spirit of Earth Month.

This naturally processed coffee from Finca Medina is a vibrant tribute to both the land and the people who cultivate it (here is a link to the coffee bag from our online shop). Grown in the rich volcanic soil of Antigua, Guatemala, these beans developed deep notes of ripe berries and dark chocolate. When we visited the farm in 2024, we were moved by their passion—not just for exceptional coffee, but for the land and community that make it possible.

Finca Medina is a leader in sustainable coffee farming, using forward-thinking practices like shade-grown cultivation, water conservation, and a closed-loop composting program. Every byproduct from the coffee process—pulp, solids, and water—is collected, composted, and returned to the soil as organic fertilizer. These methods support both soil health and biodiversity, ensuring that every harvest is a step toward a more sustainable future.

Their environmental values are matched by a strong commitment to social impact. The farm offers continuous education and training for workers, covering topics such as environmental care, personal protection equipment, family health, and hygiene. These efforts are fully funded as part of the farm’s operational philosophy.
As a proud member of both the National Association of Coffee and the Antigua Coffee Producers Association since 2002, Finca Medina is dedicated to preserving the identity and quality of Antigua coffee. Their work has earned them Rainforest Alliance certification, recognizing their commitment to wildlife conservation, waste reduction, and the well-being of farm families—who benefit from improved housing, clean water, education, and healthcare access.
Every cup from this bag reflects an ecosystem in balance—where premium quality coffee is grown with integrity, care, and a deep respect for the future. In addition to the sustainable practices of Finca Medina, we have this bagged in a home-compostable coffee bag in an effort to reduce our reliance on harmful (and unnecessary) plastics.
